Key Changes to the Licensing Model
Expanded Free Usage Limits
Under the new model, all users will receive free access to Google Maps Platform products, including Environment APIs and SDKs, with a monthly usage limit. As of March 1st, 2025, Google will terminate the free monthly credit of 200 USD and instead introduce free billable events for each individual API (To estimate your bill for usage, go to Google’s pricing calculator).
This will provide greater flexibility for developing better solutions and evaluating whether Google’s APIs and SDKs are the right fit for your business—at no cost.
Maps Embed API and Maps SDK, some of Google’s most popular products, will continue to offer unlimited free usage.
Automatic Volume Discounts
As of March, the volume discounts, previously available only to Google partner collaborators, will be available to all users and automatically applied based on usage levels. As your usage grows, you’ll unlock higher discounts. Volume discounts will start at 20% for most products, and for some, discounts can reach up to 80% when usage exceeds 5 million monthly calls.
Simplified Product Categories
Google has streamlined its product offerings to make it easier for businesses to find the right solutions. The new product categories—Essentials, Pro, and Enterprise—are based on customization options and feature sets.
Each category includes a set number of monthly free calls, and users can mix and match products across categories to meet specific needs.
